Man Like Me released their hugely anticipated self-titled debut album this May. Led by mild-mannered 23-year-old Camden pin-up Johnny Langer, Man Like Me combine indie, rave, grime, ska and hip hop with matter-of-fact lyrics to create an unquestionably youthful British sound. They follow a lineage of artists such as Ian Dury, The Specials, Hot Chip and The Streets in making the everyday sound extraordinary.

The album contains the singles ‘Oh My Gosh’, ‘Carny’ and ‘Single Dad’, and new single ‘London Town’, released on 27th April and licensed to Hot Chip’s ‘Bugged Out’ compilation. Continuing a strong live tradition, Man Like Me confirmed a featured gig at the Camden Crawl before launching the album and then launched into festival season supporting Madness at Madstock in Victoria Park on 17th July . Man Like Me also feature on Micachu & The Shapes debut album and collaborate with Boy Better Know’s JME on ‘London Town’.

The act was formed in 2005 by lead vocalist and songwriter Johnny Langer. Johnny and Peter Duffy met at the back of history lessons in 1997 whilst at school. Trombone Jerome, the latest addition to the band, was found and brought to dry land after being discovered on one of his cruise ships in the Atlantic to help complete the current setup. “It was just me at the start, but I was too scared to go it alone”, Johnny reveals “so Pete came in to burden some of the pressure and stress, followed by Edwin and more recently, his replacement Jerome”.

Over the past three years, Man Like Me have built a strong and loyal following through a combination of quality releases, extensive gigging, and TV and radio appearances. Their meteoric rise from the streets of Camden – including high profile gigs in London, Paris, Glasgow, Florence, Venice, Amsterdam, LA, Las Vegas, Rome and Barcelona as well as a very muddy Glastonbury appearance – was reflected when they became the second only unsigned act, after Friendly Fires, to play Channel 4’s Transmission show.

With the release of this album, Man Like Me cemented their reputation as one of the most exciting and intriguing bands in the UK.
